Bruce Springsteen - Dress Rehearsal Broadcast (1992)

Recorded in front of a small audience in Hollywood in 1992

This is an interesting and enjoyable now-available live collection that was performed as a warm up for Springsteen's forthcoming tour with his "new band" of session musicians, controversially replacing the E St. Band in 1992. It was played before a small audience in the Hollywood Center (the same venue that would be used for the "Plugged - In Concert" show. While there are some duplicates of tracks across the recording of that show and this one, mainly the new material from the double album release of "Human Touch" and "Lucky Town", there are others that do not appear on "Plugged", such as "Born In The USA", "57 Channels (And Nothin' On)", the haunting and bluesy "The Big Muddy", "My Hometown", "Leap Of Faith", "Roll Of The Dice", "Glory Days" and "Hungry Heart".

Personally, I prefer it to "Plugged" and find that, while it doesn't have better sound quality, it has more vibrancy. The sound on here is surprisingly good, however, if played on a good system. Springsteen completists will not be disappointed. Although the band are not  the E St. Band, they are not as bad as some would have you believe and the set is played enthusiastically. Springsteen always gives of his best anyway.
