T. Rex - The Complete Studio Albums Collection

This is an excellent box set containing the studio albums in their original format from T. Rex’s classic period from 1970-1977. What you get is:-

T. Rex (1970)
Electric Warrior (1971)
The Slider (1972)*
Tanx (1973)*
Zinc Alloy & The Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow (1974)*
Bolan’s Zip Gun (1975)
Futuristic Dragon (1976)
Dandy In The Underworld (1977)

(To read in depth reviews of the individual albums, click on an album title).

There are also two CDs featuring all the non-album singles and ‘b’ sides from the T.Rex/Wax label. What is a bit frustrating is that “Ride A White Swan” (a number 2 hit) and “Hot Love”(a huge number one hit) and both iconic early seventies singles are not included. Neither is the “Bolan Boogie” compilation album featuring those two and several other notable tracks, such as “Woodland Rock” and “King Of The Mountain Cometh”. Presumably the non-inclusion of this material is a licensing issue.

The three asterisked albums (*) are listed as being remastered by Tony Visconti and they have since been issued thus in their own right. Certainly, they all sound truly superb in my opinion (although I am a confirmed fan of Visconti’s work). They do also sound noticeably superior in their sound (fuller, warmer, bassier) than the others, with the exception of “Electric Warrior”, which also sounds great and I would have sworn was a Visconti remaster, judging by the sound of it.

Highlights for me are “The Slider” and “Electric Warrior”. Both fantastic albums. All of these albums I have reviewed extensively in their individual releases. Highly recommended box set of an iconic artist’s best work.
